About Us
Our team of dentists, dental nurses and hygienist, supported by friendly and efficient office staff, will take care of you from your first phone call to the completion of your treatment.
Colin qualified from Birmingham University Dental Hospital in 1982. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry and has a special interest in the treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD - headaches, jaw and bite problems). He is a member of the British Dental Association, the British Society for Occlusal Studies, and the prestigious Gloucester Independent Dentists’ Society. Colin started to work at Shrawley House in 1985 when he joined his father Doug Stokes, who originally opened the practice over 50 years ago in March 1957. In 1989, when Doug took partial retirement, Colin and his wife Kate took over the running of the practice.
Kate also qualified form Birmingham in 1982. She enjoys the variety of dentistry found in general practice, but especially enjoys helping people who suffer with TMD (headaches, jaw and bite problems) taking referrals from other dental practices. She is a member of the British Dental Association, the Gloucester Independent Dentists’ Society and is secretary of the British Society for Occlusal Studies as well as being a member of the American Equilibration Society. Kate joined her husband at Shrawley House in 1986.
Donna is another Birmingham graduate who joined the practice in January 2006. As well as her dental degree, she also has an honours degree in Pharmacology from Liverpool University, and is at present studying toward a postgraduate certificate in applied nutrition at the University of Worcester. Donna is also a member of the British Dental Association and Gloucester Independent Dentists’ Society.
All members of our team are committed to continuing education; Colin and Kate have studied extensively with the best trainers form around the world, both in this country and in the United States. Kate spent a week with Dr Henry Gremillion at the Parker Mahan Facial Pain Clinic in Gainsville, Florida and both Colin and Kate spent a week with Dr Jeffery Okeson at the Orofacial Pain Clinic in Lexington, Kentucky. Both of these clinics are world-renowned centres in their field. Both Kate and Colin frequently attend the American Equilibration Society’s annual meeting in Chicago tying in their visit with the Chicago Midwinter Dental Meeting, where the best speakers from around the world share their knowledge and the latest techniques. As well as studying for her postgraduate certificate in applied nutrition, Donna is also doing courses on restorative dentistry, aesthetic dentistry and implants at St. Ann’s Clinic in Manchester run by Dr Paul Tipton, who is one of our country’s leading restorative dentists and lecturers.
Traci is our excellent Hygienist. Before studying and qualifying from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ (GKT) in London as a dental hygienist, Traci had been Colin’s nurse for 10 years. We were delighted when she returned to join the team again in 2003. She was awarded the Academic Prize from GKT Hygiene Department in the same year. Traci is a member of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapists and the Gloucester Independent Dentists’ Society.
Sue has been our receptionist at Shrawley House since 1980. This involves so much unseen work, apart from the important face-to-face contact we all experience at the reception desk. She is responsible for practice administration and for keeping Shrawley House running smoothly.
All of our nurses are fully qualified, holding their national dental nursing qualifications, and are Registered Dental Nurses (RDN) with the General Dental Council.
Heather initially worked here as a teenager when Doug Stokes, Colin’s father, owned the practice, before leaving to start her family. She returned to Shrawley House to work for Colin and Kate as a part-time member of staff in 1990. She now mainly works on reception with some occasional work in the surgery.
Jo has been Kate’s dental nurse since 1995. Prior to that she did work for a number of years with Colin as his nurse. She mainly works in the surgery, but does some work on reception as well as being responsible for stock control at the practice.
Julie works with us one day a week, when she nurses for Donna. She has been with us at Shrawley House since 2001, but worked with Kate many years ago in Worcester. As well as her dental nursing qualification Julie has her Certificate of Oral Health Education
Julie has also worked with us since 2001. She was originally Colin’s full time nurse, but now that she has two young boys to look after at home she works part- time. She works chair side with both Colin and Traci as a dental nurse but also does some reception work.
Claire joined us as a part-time member of staff in 2003. She had been previously employed as a dental nurse when she was younger, but returned to dentistry after some years spent raising her family and gaining experience from a variety of other jobs. She works as a dental nurse with both Kate and Traci and does some sessions on reception too.
Catherine is Donna’s dental nurse. She is an experienced dental nurse and we were very fortunate when she joined our practice in 2004. She combines this with being responsible for the purchasing and control of oral hygiene products and a number of sessions on reception.
Rachel works alongside Colin as his dental nurse. She has many years experience as a dental nurse and again we were very fortunate that she joined our team in 2007. As with many of the team, she is multi-talented and aids Sue and the receptionists when not working in the surgery.
